Writers On the Value of Fantasy
I fell in love with reading thanks to J.R.R. Tolkien. I pretty much spent most of 7th Grade in Middle Earth. So, the following graphic quotes are devoted to those who appreciate the value of fantasy and unbridled imagination.
“Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisoned by the enemy, don’t we consider it his duty to escape? If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we’re partisans of liberty, then it’s our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can!” ~Ursula K. LeGuin, paraphrasing J.R.R. Tolkien
“Fantasy is hardly an escape from reality. It’s a way of understanding it.” ~Lloyd Alexander
“I like nonsense. It wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living; it’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope.” ~Dr. Seuss

That first quote isn’t from Tolkein. It’s from Ursula K Le Guin. http://www.thetolkienist.com/2014/01/03/not-a-tolkien-quote-fantasy-is-escapist-and-that-is-its-glory/
Thanks, Frances. Corrected.
