Personal Narrative Writing Idea: Your Life’s Soundtrack



I found this lesson plan on a Pinterest board (thanks, Jacki) and thought I’d share it. It’s designed for the classroom, but it would be a fun and interesting homeschool or co-op project as well.

The idea is to brainstorm the most important events of your life, then find songs that meaningfully connect to each of those events. This creates something of a “Life Soundtrack.” There are several ways I could imagine writing about it and presenting it afterward.

    I was watching the movie Forrest Gump this past week, and noticed how much of the story is told or implied through background music. The credits confirm that almost all of the tunes were actually written during the time periods corresponding to Forrest’s life. Similar idea to the assignment. ­čÖé
