Tip #10: Include a Thesis

Brian's Writing Tip #10: The Thesis Is Important“The most important sentence in a persuasive paper is the thesis. And by “persuasive” I mean papers that express or defend an opinion. That’s a broad range of writing that includes high school literary analysis papers, political speeches, and newspaper editorials, to name just a few. Even if you choose not to include the thesis in the paper verbatim, the exercise of clearly and concisely stating a paper’s main argument will improve both the paper and your thinking. Start every persuasive project by crafting a thesis – a single summarizing sentence that expresses in brief what the paper as a whole will flesh out.”
