Ten Lovely Thoughts on Love

14

I guess I don’t have to explain why I went with this topic today. I have smart readers.

But I will say that this post is dedicated to my own beloved valentine, who is an ocean away at the moment. She and my oldest daughter are in Dublin for the All Irelands Irish Dance Championships. I miss them both but my beautiful Melanie most of all today. I don’t have the talent to express myself like these guys, Mel, but I wish I could. I picked these quotes not only because they are examples of good writing by fine writers, but because they put words to how I feel about you.

I love you!

Brian

 Louis de Bernieres:
Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being “in love” which any of us can convince ourselves we are.
Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two.
Aristotle
Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies.
James M. Barrie:
If you have it [love], you don’t need to have anything else. If you don’t have it, it doesn’t matter much what else you have
Roy Croft:
I love you, not only for what you are, But for what I am when I am with you.
Dr. Seuss:
You know you are in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.
Mignon McLaughlin:
In the arithmetic of love, one plus one equals everything, and two minus one equals nothing.
Gretchen Kemp:

There’s this place in me where your fingerprints still rest, your kisses still linger, and your whispers softly echo. It’s the place where a part of you will forever be a part of me.

Jeremy Taylor:
Love is friendship set on fire.
Josiah G. Holland:
The most precious possession that ever comes to a man in this world is a woman’s heart.
Sir Hugh Walpole:
The most wonderful of all things in life is the discovery of another human being with whom one’s relationship has a growing depth, beauty and joy as the years increase. This inner progressiveness of love between two human beings is a most marvelous thing; it cannot be found by looking for it or by passionately wishing for it. It is a sort of divine accident, and the most wonderful of all things in life.
